₹20 lakh is the sweet spot of the Indian EV market in 2026. Below it you compromise on range; above it you pay for luxury rather than capability. The five worth shortlisting

The most capable car under ₹20 lakh in India by a wide margin. 682 km claimed, 491–545 km real, 282 bhp, rear-wheel drive and a 20-minute fast charge. Nothing else near this price comes close on any of those numbers. The trade-off is a tight rear seat and polarising styling.

2. Tata Curvv EV — ₹17.49L – ₹22.24L

585 km claimed, 421–468 km real, and Tata's service network. The coupe roof costs rear headroom. If you want long range without Mahindra's aggressive character, this is it.

3. Tata Sierra EV — ₹18.79L – ₹25.00L

665 km claimed — the longest of any Tata — with real-world 478–532 km and a design that has genuine presence. Newer to market, so the service story is less proven than the Nexon's.

4. Hyundai Creta Electric — ₹18.02L – ₹24.55L

473 km claimed and, more importantly, the Creta name. Hyundai's fit, finish and dealer experience are the segment benchmark, and resale on anything called Creta is a known quantity. The safe choice.

5. Maruti e Vitara — ₹17.00L – ₹22.50L

517 km claimed from 61 kWh, and the largest service network in India behind it. If you live somewhere a Tata or Mahindra EV specialist is three hours away, this argument matters more than any spec sheet.

What to skip and why

The MG ZS EV is competent but has been overtaken on range by cheaper cars. The Kia Carens Clavis EV makes sense only if you specifically need six seats. Anything under ₹12 lakh in this table belongs on the under-15 list rather than this one — you are shopping in a different segment.
