Electric cars with a sunroof in India (2026)

Hyundai Creta Electric, an electric car with a sunroof in India

The sunroof has become close to a default expectation in the Indian market, and electric cars are well suited to giving you a large one — there is no engine bay to package around, and the flat floor means headroom is easier to find.

Availability varies by variant. On most of these the sunroof appears from the mid trim upward, so check the specific variant rather than the model.

Sunroof or panoramic glass roof?

They are not the same thing and the difference matters more in India than in cooler markets.

  • Conventional sunroof: a metal panel that tilts and slides. Smaller opening, and when shut the roof is opaque metal — which in Indian summer is an advantage.
  • Panoramic glass roof: a large fixed or opening glass panel over both rows. Far more light, much better sense of space, and considerably more solar heat load.
  • Fixed glass roof: as above but it does not open at all. Common on Tesla and BYD.

The heat question, honestly

A panoramic glass roof in a 45-degree Indian summer adds meaningful cabin heat, and the air conditioning works harder to compensate — which on an electric car directly costs you range. Expect a few percent on a hot afternoon.

Three things reduce it:

  1. The sunblind. Non-negotiable. Check it is opaque and fabric-backed, not a thin mesh.
  2. IR-reflective glass. Most current panoramic roofs use it. It helps genuinely.
  3. Pre-cooling. Nearly every EV here can pre-cool the cabin from the app while still plugged in — which uses grid power rather than battery. This is the single best answer to the problem, and it is one of the small ways an EV beats a petrol car in Indian conditions.

The picks

  • Best value with a sunroof: Hyundai Creta Electric — ₹18.02L – ₹24.55L, and Hyundai's sunblind is among the better ones.
  • Largest glass area: Tesla Model Y — the full-length fixed glass roof, though it does not open.
  • Best panoramic under ₹25 lakh: Tata Curvv EV at ₹17.49L – ₹22.24L or Mahindra XEV 9e at ₹21.90L – ₹31.25L.
  • Six seats with a sunroof: Kia Carens Clavis EV — ₹17.99L – ₹24.49L.

Frequently asked questions

Which electric cars in India have a sunroof?
Most mid-size and larger EVs offer one, including the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV and Harrier EV, Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e, Maruti e Vitara, MG ZS EV, BYD Atto 3 and Seal, Kia Carens Clavis EV and Tesla Model Y. Availability usually starts from mid variants upward.
What is the cheapest electric car with a sunroof in India?
The MG ZS EV and Hyundai Creta Electric are among the most affordable, from around Rs 17.99-18.02 lakh depending on variant. Sunroofs are generally not offered on EVs below about Rs 15 lakh.
Does a panoramic sunroof reduce EV range in India?
Slightly, in hot weather. The extra solar heat load makes the air conditioning work harder, which draws battery power - expect a few percent on a hot afternoon. Using the sunblind and pre-cooling the cabin while plugged in largely offsets it.
Are panoramic glass roofs practical in Indian summers?
Yes, with the right glass and a proper sunblind. Most current panoramic roofs use IR-reflective glass, and an opaque fabric-backed blind makes a large difference. Pre-cooling from the app while still plugged in is the most effective solution.
What is the difference between a sunroof and a panoramic roof?
A conventional sunroof is a metal panel that tilts and slides over the front row. A panoramic roof is a much larger glass panel spanning both rows - it may open or be fixed. Panoramic roofs give far more light and space but add more heat load.

Prices are ex-showroom and indicative. Range figures are manufacturer-claimed unless stated otherwise; real-world range in Indian conditions is typically 72–80% of claimed. Costs vary by state tariff, fuel price and driving style. Last updated 26 August 2026.
