How home charging cost is calculated

The maths is simple: units used × tariff. A full charge draws roughly your battery size in kWh (plus a small charger loss of 8–12%). Multiply that by your home tariff (₹ per unit) and you have the cost of a full "tank." Divide by your real range and you get cost per km — usually ₹0.80–1.20, versus ₹6–8 for petrol.

Rule of thumb: charge at home, fast-charge only on trips. Home charging is 2–3× cheaper per unit than public DC fast chargers, so daily home charging keeps your running cost at its lowest.

What affects your charging cost?

Three things: your electricity tariff (varies by state and slab), your EV's efficiency (km per kWh), and charging losses. AC home charging is the most efficient and cheapest; DC fast charging is faster but costs more per unit and is best reserved for highways.
